Hola Amigos!!
I have officially been in the Mexico CCM (MTC) for a week and a day. It has been the best and longest week of my life.
Disclaimer, This keyboard is a spanish one so its hard to type and also I suck at english and its only been a week so yeah......
Last week I flew to Detroit and then to Mexico City I was really hoping there would be some other missionaries but there wasnt. So I was the only one of my flight. I then arrived and made it through customs and got picked up. OK! So driving in Mexico City is insane!!!! There is like no lanes and people just drive wherever they want, its was so scary but also so cool.
The rest of the week we had classes and like I mean like a lot of classes. We have spanish classes, teaching, grammar, scripture study, workshops and more. We have about 9 or 10 hours of classes a day. Its crazy!!
My companion is Elder Bowen and he is from Alabama and Georgia. So I got a southern which is great, haha we relate on a lot of levels. My district is amazing. We have 5 elders and 6 Hermanas. My companion is going to Mexico Puebla South, the other three Elders are going to Monterrey West. And the hermanas are all going back to the states, in Alabama, Kentucky, and Idaho. So I am the only elder in the CCM going to Tuxtla Gutierrez, there are three Hermanas going though.
The CCM is amazing. The compound is right in the middle of the city so we hear gunshots, parties, loud music, cars, police. Its is strange like being so separated from the world but at the same time its awesome. Its like a little USA just with a lot of latinos. It also is kinda cold here haha but its like 50 degrees, so I much be getting use to the weather. Im still not ready for the heat of Tuxtla though. So I live in a casa or house, so we have 5 rooms and 4 elders per room. Its pretty awesome, we live in the rosa sections or the pink houses. Yeah my house is pink. I didnt get a picture of it but i will next week.
I love being a missionary we get so many opportunities, this week Ive taught 3 times all in spanish, the Lord definitely blesses us as missionaries because I could have never done that before, with only a week of learning. We also got to hear from two apostles, Elder Cook and Elder Soare
s?? It was amazing they talked about having urgency in our work and to always work as hard as possible, if we do that we can teach with the holy ghost.
I was studying the story of Ammon who was an amazing missionary. In the Book of Mormon in the book called Alma, I was reading about how Ammon told the king that he is a man, a regular man. But he was called of God to be his servant to preach unto his people things which are just and true. I felt so connected to this story because I am a regular man, but I have been called of God to teach his gospel to those in Tuxtla. I love being a missionary. I truly believe that, DIos es nosotros Padre Celestial (God is our Heavenly Father)
I love you all,
Elder Cheney
