Hola Mis Amigos!!!
Hows everyone's week going!
Well this week was crazy like always haha. I just have a couple stories.
One, we are teaching this youth named Angel. He was actually baptized before I got here but not confirmed. So we had to keep teaching him till he got confirmed. But one day we got to his house and him and his younger sister had no food or water. So Elder MAcedo said we would go buy them some. Which I dont know if thats allowed, but hes the trainer so I followed. We left our stuff there. When we came back our stuff was outside the house, when we left it inside. So we left and then went to buy some water for ourselves because its hotter than hades here so we sweat a ton and drink a ton too. We went to get his wallet and it wasnt there. So we checked the house and the other stores. And then realized that Angel or someone in his family stole my companions wallet. Haha we hope he didnt but we are pretty sure he did.
Second, we are teaching this 15 year old named Antonia, she looks about 9. But she takes care of her grandpa who is like 78! But we went to visit her, and he was there. So we stayed and just talked his is super old and has a lot of pain. So we just sat there and talked. I didn't understand anything cause he was mumbling. But we sang count your blessings, I think its that in english, but I was reading the words, and like the 3 verse I looked up and he was crying. I wanted to cry too, he was just filled with the spirit and even though he was in pain he was happy we were there.
Third, I had that experience everyone on missions had with food. So we we had to go to two dinners one day and the first one we were served soup. It was about 100 degrees and the soup was burning hot. We were sweating so hard. We eat a lot of soup. It was mostly just oil, so we were drinking hot oil and then there was kind of some meat gristle stuff in the bottom. I ate it. Then we went to another house and had chicken and rice. I think my stomach will be tough by the end of my mission.
One experience I just wanted to share. My area has a lot of hills. So I was sweating bullets one day and just super tired mentally and physically. But we got to the top of one hill and stopped. I could see of over like all of Tuxtla. And I could see the mountains and the houses and the puebles of people. A thought came to my mind of what my mission president said when we first arrived. You are here, you are here. He said this when he handed us the Libro de Mormon or Book of Mormon we carry around with us at all times. He said you are here in the place where this happened. You are teaching in Zarahemla. Teaching the people of the Nephites. It literally made me cry. My mission president, someone set apart of God, said to me that I am teaching where the Book of Mormon took place. I am teaching Gods people. I am a servant of the Lord, and honestly that is hard to process. My life has been easy in some aspects. But coming here has made me realize that there are so many things that matter more. Like a testimony that God is our loving heavenly father and that his son Jesus Christ died for us. This next week I am focusing on the Savior because its Easter week. I am focusing on Christs ministry and his life. I am in Zarahemla I am teaching where Nephi, Mormon, and Moroni taught. I am a servant of Jesus Christ and even though I am not perfect, Jesus Christ is perfect.
Love you all,
Elder Cheney
