Hospitals, Mountains and Sunburns

Hola mis amigos!!!

First I am sorry that I have not emailed in a while, these past few weeks have literally been the craziest weeks in my entire life.

So about a week ago we had to travel about 2 hours to Tuxtla the capital because my companion was really sick, we thought he had Dengue fever. Because right now is the time of year when a lot of people get Dengue. So we went to the hosptital and we sat in the hospital for about 5  hours until about midnight. We found out he does not have Dengue, but just a super bad stomach infection. Now he is a lot better because was given medicine. All I can say though is the gringo didn't get sick!!! It was the Mexican! But I am very grateful that he is doing a lot better!

We got some pretty big news after that though, the next day we found out that there are some changes, so I got the call that I was going to be changes to a different zone. So I was in Tuxtla the capital and the city. But now I am in the mountains in a zone called Comitan. Its a lot higher up which means its colder, not cold but its more chill. Which makes me want to cry!!! (with happiness : )

I am now with Elder Mich, he is from Guatemala. But I knew him from my first area in Chahuites. Him and his companion were the other set of elders in my same branch. So its pretty cool to get to be comps with him.

We have a ton of Potential here! My area is named Villa Las Rosas. We are teaching a lot of families. One family have 4 children and the parents are amazing. We met with them for about 3 hours on day because the parents just loved it. We shared about the gospel of Jesus Christ and the restoration. They said that they don't go to church, but their door is always open to churches. But they are never to serious with others. But with us they felt something different. They felt the HOLY GHOST!!!! But the parents literally had tears in their eyes.

We also met with the family of Felicia. She is a member but her children aren't. But we put two dates with two of her kids! We are going to have the baptisms in the lakes!!!

Next Friday we have a meeting with the general authority. He is a member of the seventy! So all the zones in Tuxtla get to go and listen. So my zone has top leave at like 4 in the morning to get to the meeting!!! But I know its going to be an amazing experience.

Sidenote. I am really high up so that means the sun is a lot stronger but I cant feel it because its colder. But I am red all the time and the Latinos freaking love it!!!

This Sunday I gave a talk on prayer. We were the only ones speaking so I spoke for like 20 minutes. So I used a ton of scriptures. But when I was preparing for this talk I realized that our church started in this dispensation because of prayer. Joseph Smith the prophet of God was called because when he was 14 years old he prayed to God to find his answer. He received his answer when God the father and his son appeared to him. I invite all of you to read Joseph Smith History 1;13-17 its absolutely amazing. Also PRAY OUT LOUD!!! It might seem crazy at first buts its an amazing exeperience.

Love you all and have an amazing week and look for the missionary experiences!

Pig's head makes good tacos!

 Hola mis amigos!!!

This week was a fast and crazy experience!!!

Some cool expericnes
1. I gave a drunk guy a 10 cent coin from the states because he wouldn't let us leave until we gave him something. (There are a lot of alchoholics, really sad but we can't pay every single one, some know where we live because its a small town, and they will come and ask for more)
2. A woman name Carolina (SHOUT OUT TO NORTH CAROLINA!!!!)  cried because she felt the spirit and when we gave her a blessing. She also gave us pizza and cake. That was the first day we met her.
3. I made popcorn on a electric stove for 15 people, only got burned from about 10 times!!
4. I almost cried in a lesson with a Man name Juan Carlos, he is alcoholic and wants to stop. So we just testified that the gospel can help him. then his parents shared their testimonies (The are members). They both were crying! I wanted to cry!!!
5. DID SERVICE!!!! Carried about 50 buckets of dirt!
6. Felt the Spirit!!
7. Read the Libro de Mormon!!!
8. Thanked GOD!
9. I spoke to a turkey, he is our next door neighbor. Weird I know.
10. We have 5 baptism dates! Carlos, Gabby, Patrona, Myra, Berta Alicia and they are the family of Juan Carlos!!!
11. I ate pig head tacos. We eat a ton of tortillas and tacos. I love it. The tacos were actually really good!

I was reading in Ether 3; 5
Behold, O Lord, thou canst do this. We know that thou art able to show forth great power, which alooks small unto the understanding of men.
And it came to pass that when the brother of Jared had said these words, behold, the aLord stretched forth his hand and touched the stones one by one with his bfinger. And the cveilwas taken from off the eyes of the brother of Jared, and he saw the finger of the Lord; and it was as the finger of a man, like unto flesh and blood; and the brother of Jared dfell downbefore the Lord, for he was struck with efear.

The brother Jared knew that God had the power to do it. HE HAD THE FAITH!!!! We need this faith. Then when we see the hand of the lord in our lives we need to be grateful and sometimes fearful. Not of God but of what could happen if we don't follow his commandments. FAITH AND CONFIDENCE go hand and hand. Look to god and have faith he can do what you ask of him. But be willingly to do what he tells you.

Love and miss you all
Elder Cheney
