HOLA MIS AMIGOS!!
Well first I am super grateful for all of you that sent me a letter this week, it has helped a lot and I feel so much love from the states!!!
So the title, if you guys have kept up on my mission, my presidente really likes transfers i guess. SO YOUR BOY GOT TRANSFERRED AGAIN!!!! After two weeks in 5 de Febrero, i was switched the Tapachula ward which is just one ward over. But this area has sisters and were taking out and this area didn't have missionaries. So my president put me and another GRINGO!!! Here so this is my first gringo comp since day 1. But I am still zone leader and senior comp. My president also separates the zone leaders. Don't ask me why.
But this week has actually been really great! I have traveled my zone helping lots of missionaries and doing interviews for baptism! I love watching the lords work grow! But also starting from scratch in my area has been really fun! WE HAVE SEEN SO MANY MIRACLES!!!
1. First day in the area we don't know anyone, we decided to ask a random house for directions. We yelled BUENAS!!! And the sister came out and said ¨Yeah elders how can I help you ̈ Shocked we asked you're a member? And gracias a dios she was a member!! She helped us a lot! Shout out to the spirit for guiding us!
2. Found the family of Eduardo. I was walking down the street and passed a old lady on the porch. I then felt that I needed to talk to her. We went back and started talking. Her whole family then came out and started listening. Turns out her late husband was a member and her son served a mission. Her daughter is inactive and wants to come back and the son in law and granddaughters aren't members but want to listen!!!
3. Met Alex, he is a friend of one of the youth in our ward. He is 19 and has lived alone for 4 years. That's what I call self sufficient. But we asked to help clean his house and he was super surprised that people would want to help or serve him. YEP MISSIONARIES LIKE TO SERVE!! But basically hes great and we are meeting him again this week.
4. Met a Muslim that was trying to convince me that Christ wasn't our savior or he doesn't have that much of a role. It was really sad honestly, he was trying hard!! But I just gave my testimony and left it at that! Because he also had 5 of his coworkers standing by and I just began to testify!!! I LOVE MY JOB!
So my mom sent me a article this week that gave me goosebumps, here's a part:
Have you ever said something to a sibling or friend that you regret? Or laughed at a joke that wasn’t kind or clean? Or maybe kept watching a movie a little longer than you knew you should have?
Later, the situation pops into your head. You feel guilty about it, so you kneel to talk to God about the mistakes you’ve made, asking for forgiveness and then feeling God’s love.
If this seems familiar, consider what we can learn about overcoming weakness from an experience the Prophet Joseph Smith had when he was 17.
About three years after the First Vision, Joseph found that he “frequently fell into many foolish errors, and displayed the weakness of youth” and “was guilty of levity” (Joseph Smith—History 1:28). He recognized that he had sinned against God, and as someone who had been called by God, he knew he needed to be better. Joseph “felt condemned for [his] weakness and imperfections” (Joseph Smith—History 1:29), so one night he knelt down to pray and plead for forgiveness.
Even though Joseph was not perfect, he was still worthy to be called by God to help restore the gospel. Joseph maintained that worthiness to do God’s work by repenting whenever he made mistakes.
All of us have given in to temptation at times; none of us is perfect. We have weaknesses and make mistakes. But we can follow Joseph’s example of turning to the Lord. You don’t need to be perfect to do God’s work, but you do need to repent so you can be worthy.
I love this because the prophet had mistakes! We have mistakes! But we can over comp them through the atonement of Jesus Christ! My challenge this week for you is to find out who is Christ to you!
Love,
Elder Cheney
